The backstory of the Happy Island

Bari Schanerman, sitting in a white chair against a tan background, smiling and looking over her shoulder

In early 2012, while returning from a short trip feeling exhausted and drained, I declared to my friend, “I want to go to a happy island”. We spent the next few hours on the flight joking about what this island represented and released all the pent-up energy from the drama on the trip that felt like 7th grade, only, I didn’t experience this drama in 7th grade.

What began as a joke, quickly started my formal journey to understand human behavior and to connect the dots on how I got to this point. Over the next few months, I spent a lot of time reflecting on what the happy island looked like, where it was, how to get there and defining it for complete clarity. I observed that people would complain, blame others, or not own their behavior, and then wonder why they weren’t happy. As time went on, I discovered when you can articulate your needs and prioritize what is important, you can begin the process to create your own chain of happy islands.

Happiness is an inside job and understanding our needs, as well as how to get them fulfilled is our responsibility. The payoff of finding your Happy Island is life gets infinitely easier. When we articulate our needs and communicate with clarity what we need to ourselves, as well as others, it changes the game of life.

Fast forward to the first week of 2021 - I broke my femur.

On the way to the hospital, I made the decision to use this challenge to practice what I had learned since the trip, about “Living and Leading with Intenergy®”, a philosophy that combines mindset and communication. A supportive mindset and clarity of what was within my control, made it easy to ask for what I needed to get through the recovery.

Without judgment, life is just a series of adventures, experiments, and course corrections to keep growing. The potential lies in the possibilities, when being open to trusting the process. Having this opportunity to witness how different a challenge could be when using Living and Leading with Intenergy® was truly a gift, and the broken leg was actually a small price to pay.

What comes next

The accident convinced me to move forward on starting a virtual community, at Your Meeting Place, so others can learn the path to personal freedom and their definition of success when practicing Living and Leading with Intenergy®. For many years, it has been my belief that groups and communities are a powerful way to grow personally as well as professionally.

Having a tribe to support you while exploring this new world is just the start.

My mission today

My mission today is to support individuals and businesses/organizations to gain new perspectives and clarity of what they truly want and need, to see a path forward to make the vision their reality, so everyone can live on their Happy Island now, not someday.

Join a community of individuals on this journey.
